London, June 2019. Maggie is 30, pregnant and broke. Faced with moving back to the home town she fought to escape, she’s wondering if having a baby with boyfriend Ed will be the last spontaneous act of her life. Ed, meanwhile, is harbouring secret dreams of his own.
Phil hates his office job and is living for the weekend, while falling for his housemate, Keith. But there’s a problem: Keith already has a boyfriend. Then there’s Rosaleen, Phil’s mother, who’s tired of feeling like a side character in her own life. She’s just been diagnosed with cancer and is travelling to London to tell Phil, if she can ever get hold of him.
As Saturday night approaches in a city on the brink of political upheaval, all their lives are set to change forever. It’s the hottest summer on record, and the weekend is about to begin.

A good read but frustrating at times!
The storyline got me hooked but the over analysis and the need to unpack everyone of the various characters thought processes drove me crazy at times. The need to delve deep into a thought at times was so beyond what was necessary to make the point and explain the characters development. Overall, the storyline was interesting and the back and forth from the past to the present was interesting …the relationships between family, friends and the trust and lack of trust between family and friends was also interesting. I enjoyed the book albeit having to skip a few sections when i felt it was just going on on and on too much. Looking forward to Oisons next book!

A vibrant and absorbing read.
I enjoyed the human insight, truth, pace and queerness of this fresh novel that is set in contemporary London. I also enjoyed the performance.
